Minister Fazila Jeewa Daureeawoo
was candidate in an election of universal suffrage in May 2005.
She was elected and served as Member
of the Mauritius National Assembly from 2005 – 2010.
She stood as candidate again in the
last general election which was held on 10th December 2014.
She was elected and appointed
Minister of Social Security, National Solidarity and Reform Institutions from
22 December 2014 to 23 January 2017
She was thereafter appointed Minister
of Gender Equality, Child Development and Family Welfare.
She has been a Solicitor registered
on the Roll of the Supreme Court of Mauritius pursuant to the Law Practitioners
Act, a legislation governing the practice of law in Mauritius.
She has more than 25 years’ standing
with experience in Family matters and appeared in all Courts of Mauritius,
including the Supreme Court and the Family Division of the Supreme Court.
Fazila has given expert
legal opinion on Family matters in proceedings before English Court on a number
Fazila has also been a
Parliamentarian observer of the General Election held in Zambia in 2007 and
Seychelles in 2015.
